“How does a…” is how Burr introduces six songs interspaced regularly throughout the musical. The first and second times it’s “bastard, orphan, son of whore…” The third time Burr’s talking about the Army, not Hamilton, and it’s “ragtag volunteer army in need of a shower.” In “What’d I Miss?” (starting out the second act almost the same way he started the first) Burr is slightly more complimentary, including “decorated war vet” in the mix. In “The Adams Administration” instead of describing Hamilton’s distant past he focuses on more recent accomplishments: “short-tempered, protean creator of the Coast Guard, founder of the New York Post” before seguing into some very uncomplimentary things. Then in “Your Obedient Servant” Burr calls Hamilton every slur in the book: “arrogant, immigrant, orphan, bastard, whoreson.”
